The Rush To Be Right

Other problems: how do we rule out Ideal Self response set? Or Socially Desirable responding? Some people may use the test items to present as the kind of person they'd like to be. Or they might try to fake you out and resemble what they think you'd want them to be in a given context.

I agree. I think this is a big issue.

Seems tricky since the way some people manifest a type-specific trait can be the opposite of what they're really like. Or at least that's what some of the profile descriptions say....

Yes this is true, but intuitive people are harder to fool, and the energy it takes to keep up a masquerade is enormous. My wife is pretty amazing at seeing through peoples facades, probably from so many years at having to do so.

Paladin, I'm not sure why you call it 'masquerade' or 'facade.' I think people keep their identity in a state of equilibrium by means of tendencies that may seem inconsistent with their true nature, but are nevertheless aspects of it. Defenses sometimes do have a life of their own - or they get a bit too rigid - but still: the person's own special way of using the defenses is part of who they are and will reflect on their underlying temperament. By the same token, the persona or outward social self is not totally discrepant from the inner self. The mask can reveal something about the need to protect the essential person and can provide clues about that essence.

Defenses may actually be personality traits that should probably be recognized as part of the dynamic personality process rather than "seen through" and then dismissed as though it's false/ irrelevant to understanding someone. I think if you want to see someone "holistically" - i.e., in a complete and loving way - you also look at their persona, rather than see through/past it in the hope of discovering what it's covering up.

I see. I thought you were referring to people who were deliberately trying to deceive.

You have to -pay- to use that? lol... That ain't happening... I did the free one and it told me this about me....

You are fascinated with developing strategic plans for others to use. In your preferred environment, you work behind the scenes while someone else takes the active leadership role. Often, you are driven to step in as leader when you become impatient with the way a project is going. In your ideal job, you independently analyze systems and make recommendations about how objectives will best be reached; someone else does the work of delegating work, motivating people, or enforcing work duties. You want challenge in your work and become frustrated when asked to merely follow routines, especially if those routines are inefficient.

I don't like work :S I only come here cause I "have to" I couldn't care less about the companies objectives... I sit here in a daze til 17:00 then I wake up and go and live. So... Not sure if this is worth paying for.

Well, the Myers-Briggs Personality Test is called that for a reason...

That's the link where you can get more detailed information for each type. Here's the free test:

Yeah but I mean, shouldn't this be questioned? Like if even on the free test it isn't accurate, then surley if people are paying a website to tell them about themselves lol.... They are being con'ed?

That other test I got: 61756222
And I have no idea what that means, so I can't comment on it.... lol, But the other thing with questionaires like this... How accurate can they be?

Question (or near enough)

Do you find it easy to speak about your emotions.?

I can answer this no and yes....

Is it aww all touchy touch feel I'm all sad and gonna cwy... Then no... I won't find that easy.....

If it is.... You have upset me majorly... and I now wish to express how pissed off I am with you and how much I am contemplating ripping your face off... Then yes, I can express and speak about these kind of emotions very easy....

Of course it should be questioned. {A great avenue for introspection}

I was kind of happy with my profile. I did a retake - this time with random responses and I still came out as an INFP!!!

# moderately expressed introvert
# slightly expressed intuitive personality
# moderately expressed feeling personality
# slightly expressed perceiving personality

The fact that the test doesn't pick up random responding is not a good sign.

Would that be the intuitive aspect of your personality subconsciously biasing the randomness? :p

Actually it wasn't true random. It was Left/Right, Left/Right, Left/Right, etc. I did it that way so anyone could replicate the findings.

Reliability is essential to validity... except in my experiment! I can give you perfect test-retest reliability on the Myers-Briggs, but it wouldn't tell you anything. :D

Well, let's see: Odd numbered questions "Yes", (left) even numbered questions "No" (right) yielded these results:
ESTJ
Which is the exact opposite of INFP. Did you start off with the left (odd numbered "yes") or the right (odd numbers "no")?

Try Right/Left, Right/Left, Right/Left, etc.
Your results are replicated:

I took the test again, this time marking all items "No."

The result:

Your Type is
ESTJ
