We had a fun Halloween. I should post a couple of pics. The girls are still in the princess stage. We saw a lot of princesses and pirates! Pirates of the Caribean is a big hit with kids, and I love that!

Our girls had fun too, although it's much quieter here than when we lived in Missouri last year (three trick-or-treaters this year vs. about 50 last year).

Luna, I love it when you post pics of your kids! (My oldest was Tink one year--we kept a ballet costume instead of turning it back in on time and I altered it just enough to temporarily imitate Pan's sidekick.)

I have always had lots of fun with the costumes. Won some prizes, we have! Highlights, I guess, were the glass slippers I made one year with lots of clear-dry Elmer's, and then there was the year I won 75 bucks dressed as Stevie Nicks on the cover of Bella Donna. Someone recently suggested that I should try dressing as Counselor Troy (sp?) from Star Trek. Was going to do that this year, but some other things came up. Anyway...my grandkids have an interesting array this year, the slender 12-year-old decided to be a Sumo wrestler. Guess he will be too old for it all next year, that is, unless he takes after his Grammy.:rolleyes:

Yesterday was kind of a hard day for us here, but it was a bright spot to hand out some Snickers and Three Musketeer bars to the all-in-one tailgate party trick-or-treaters last night. Haven't gotten to do that in some time now.

I'll never grow up, never grow up, never....

Great pics Luna! This year I wore my John Deere cap, dressed all in green, and pretended to be a midwest farmer. I didn't seem to convince many people of that illusion out here in the desert. They probably thought I was just some sort of mutant artichoke !

Great mantra InLove...I use it quite often myself.

Yep--I like it too. I recently saw a show on the Food Channel where they investigated how it is made. Pretty interesting (maybe I am easily entertained). Anyway, they showed how to make it at home, and it comes out different, but cool. Lots of corn syrup, don'tcha know.

Hey flow--next year add the tractor. :D

Thanks InLove. :D I like Tinkerbell although for some reason I'm not a big fan of Peter Pan. The movie with Robin Williams was completely annoying, IMO. Sorry, not trying to be a wet blanket. Just not my cup of tea I guess! I like Halloween and it is tons more fun with kids of our own.

The candy corn is too sweet for me...but to get this thread back on topic...Easter chocolate eggs are the best! I've grown fond of the ones made by Dove, dark chocolate...mmmm.

Rather than steer clear of popular pagan customs and magical rites, the religious leaders condoned them and gave them "Christian significance." not a good thing to do in the eyes of the Almighty.still it was foretold that these sort of things would happen ,and many have come to think that this is quite alright ,even thinking that these celebrations are based on the bible , yes many many people have been misled down through time , and mixing pagan with pure teachings is very offensive to the true God.
How does God feel about these customs?

We can learn, however, from the occasion when the Israelites adopted an Egyptian religious practice and renamed it "a festival to Jehovah." They too "sat down to eat and drink" and "got up to have a good time." But their actions greatly angered Jehovah God, and he severely punished them.—Exodus 32:1-10, 25-28, 35.

the people worshipped the golden calf idol, sacrificed to it, and claimed that the idol brought them out of Egypt, which is blasphemy. That is why god punished them.

Ah, horse puckey. God punishes the heart of man, not the actions of man. God looks into a man's heart, and there He finds the truth. That is what He want's to see.

without a doubt, before one even acts, the thought of it in your heart is a sin. however, the people who made the golden calf not only thought of sinning, but also acted upon it.. i did not mention what you pointed out in my thread out of simplicity, because i was merely pointing out that the golden calf has nothing to do with the concept of celebrating easter which warrants gods disapproval, because they are two different kinds of events entirely.

and called it a festival to Jehovah ,what they were doing was wrong ,and adding the name of God to it did not make a wrong right.in fact it added to the wrong.
After they left Egypt, the Israelites made a golden calf to worship. In addition to the warning against idolatry, there is another important lesson in this account. The Israelites disobeyed clear direction from Jehovah. (Exodus 20:4-6) Yet, they did not intend to reject Jehovah as their God. They made sacrifices to the molten calf and called the occasion "a festival to Jehovah." Somehow they deceived themselves into thinking that God would ignore their disobedience. This was an insult to Jehovah, and it angered him greatly.—Exodus 32:5, 7-10; Psalm 106:19, 20.

It is no secret that the tradition of Easter is man-made rather than God-given.
