News banning and reputation systems

"Whenever you find that you are on the side of the majority, it is time to reform." - Mark Twain
Gotta luv Mark Twain. Of course, he was also famous for saying his real politics were a private matter, that the politics he displayed in public were those of the moment and present company... ;)

The accuracy of the reputation system will be amazing huh...

It's going to end up being an eye for an eye with reputation... And friends conteracting reputations... Meaning.. I have doubts in it.

Well, it's not the first time in a forum where I thought some guy was a $%*&(*&(*^*%&%*&, and I can just imagine myself (with a devious grin) giving someone a bad rep because there was an opportunity to hit him with something. I haven't felt that way with the people here, but in others, sometimes I really feel like doing ^*(&%*^* to them.:D

I'm not a nasty person, but I'm not all pure and holy either.

But to be realistic, it's not really that person's fault. It's bad moderators.

I like CR/Interfaith because Brian has done such a good job keeping it peaceful. But I understand that it's a hard job and the Reputation system might make it a little easier. I don't think I'd personally have to use it. If I do use it, it'd be to give people positive rep.

The danger of bad rep's would be that Brian would be handing to us the responsibility to moderate between ourselves, and we wouldn't all make good moderators. It could be a recipe for anarchy and disorder! ..... and some private bickering between members.

But anyway, I'd much rather be told off by Brian for misbehaviour. It always helps when you know there's one single person running the house. Brian getting personally involved is a good thing.:)

By the way, has anyone started giving any rep's yet, or are we all ignoring it because it's new?

It's more intended as a member feedback loop - we can't allow everyone to moderate each other, but this does allow members to give some form of feedback not simply on each other, but also the moderators as well. :)

Well if its only going to end up with "peeps" in a self-congratulatory huddle it will be revealing. I used it twice I think. Once to give Dog a thumbs down and once to give Grey a thumbs up. Will be the only two times I use it.

That's great for me (no more negative points) lol :D

I've give I think like seven or so thumbs up recieved four or so thumbs up recieved no thumbs down and I have given one thumbs down... Even though I really don't want to there was no choice ;/ I was attempting to help make the rep system accurate and fair.

Mine is "questionable".

How do you see them?

I haven't played with any of the new stuff yet. I doubt I'll be doing too much with the reputation feature. I only accidentally pushed the CP button and found some people wanting to be my friend. I haven't had time to play with that either.

I've got a question about posting news about the Lifeline Lottery project started with the international cell-phone lottery system I developed for a Native American tribal lottery to raise funds to purchase back thousands of acres of now very high-priced ancestral land. The tribal project tanked (again) but the lottery system can still be used for generating huge amounts of money for good causes.

I've given some 13 years on and off of effort into the tribal lottery project and frankly, at age 64, I am burned out of this type of activism but I am willing to teach the system for others to use for their good cause. The impetus for my reaching out again comes from reading a report in the news today about how charities cannot handle funding large scale disaster relief. The Lifeline Lottery can raise gigantic amounts of money for such a cause. I want to get the system to some organization that can use it.
