Putting God on Trial: The Biblical Book of Job

Maybe one aspect of the parable is that God sometimes SEEMS like an unjust judge. And, whether He is or not, we should never stop pestering Him. ;) (Was it Paul who said "Pray always"?) With regard to the Gentile (Greek-speaking) woman, one interesting thing is that Jesus and the apostles...

Do we (Muslims, Christians and Jews) believe in the same God or not?

MOK, "Wether we classify ourselves as believing in the same God or not is irrelevant. There is only one God, no matter what angle you look at Him." _____________ Exactly.

God, gender and women's place in abrahamic religions

And in John 20:17, Jesus says to Mary Mag: "go to my brethren and say to them, I ascend to my Father and your Father, my God and your God." Mary was the only one to see Jesus at the tomb.

God, gender and women's place in abrahamic religions

BTW, Fatty, the Bible says men and women were created in the image and likeness of God. So does the Bible contradict itself? Do you really think only males were so created?

God, gender and women's place in abrahamic religions

So men have one less rib than women? ;) I'm with the RCC on this one. It's an allegory--hardly literal.

Do we (Muslims, Christians and Jews) believe in the same God or not?

If you're Catholic, yeah.:) Of course, some roads also led to Damascus.

God, gender and women's place in abrahamic religions

GEnesis 1:27 reads "God created humans in His own image, in the image of God He created mankind, male and female he created them."

Do we (Muslims, Christians and Jews) believe in the same God or not?

It doesn't matter where you start but in what direction you're going. Religions are not the goal, but only signposts. There are many paths.

Do we (Muslims, Christians and Jews) believe in the same God or not?

It's still the same God, with some differences as to his nature. Whether Trinity (Xtian) or one (Jews and Muslims), our duty to draw closer to him remains the same. Yes, but the names are connected. Same God. I think the primary is not getting the creed right, but getting your life right.

Do we (Muslims, Christians and Jews) believe in the same God or not?

I of course agree. I've quoted it before, and I'll probably quote it again, but for me Teilhard's observation "Everything that rises must converge" sums up the mystical path. It's one that draws people of various faiths together, as we see in the career of Thomas Merton, the Trappist monk...

Do we (Muslims, Christians and Jews) believe in the same God or not?

"Christ came along and the message was "Faith". Do you believe...was the question. If so, then you are saved. No works required. Just believe. Hence the second is Faith." ___________ I believe that was Paul, not Jesus.

    In reality we own nothing!

    Well, Leviticus does anyway.

    In reality we own nothing!

"The land shall not be sold permanently, for the land is Mine. You are but aliens and sojourners with Me." (Leviticus 25:23) Reverence for God and reverence for the Earth go hand in hand.

The path has become more of a dirt track.

In Christianity as well there has long been a strong tradition of contempt for the world and its ways. Jesus said, "You know that those who are recognized as ruiers among the Gentiles [the worldly] lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. "But it is not this way...

The path has become more of a dirt track.

When the path seems to peter out, what we need, I think, is a change of focus, or new lens, to see it. There are always our daily duties, our responsibilities, etc. Nancy Mairs, in an article "Letting Go of God" in the current NOTRE DAME MAGAZINE, says, "Better, I think, to embrace chaos...

The path has become more of a dirt track.

John Donne put it this way: "On a huge hill, Cragged and steep, Truth stands, and he that will Reach her, about must and about must go," Another image that comes to mind is Kafka's unreachable castle. But then there's Ferlinghetti's take on the Castle (from A CONEY ISLAND OF THE MIND)...

God, gender and women's place in abrahamic religions

Paul distinguishes between things he has "from the Lord," and things he is saying on his own. The above I believe falls into the latter category. And didn't Paul also say that in Jesus Christ there is no male or female?

God, gender and women's place in abrahamic religions

"I disagree. I think women can preach the word of God, and I think they do daily. They just don't command thousands of people's attention, at a stretch. No, they command the attention of their children. And it really isn't commanding, but more like enthralling." ________________ Aimee Semple...

God, gender and women's place in abrahamic religions

"Mostly true. However there have been prophetesses (biblical), and they were told specifically how to dress in order to present themselves with authority as given by God (head covered, quiet in their ways for example), but they were not to be dismissed, else there would be hell to pay. The Holy...

God, gender and women's place in abrahamic religions

I think you're mixing up two versions of creation in Genesis. My NASB says in Genesis 1 that men AND women were created in God's image. So what does that tell us about God?
