Medals of honor too christian?

So I guess, I don't understand why this decision is a problem?

Thank you Jamarz for looking more deeply into the situation.

I do look forward to some response from those opposed to the change.

Or was your post enough for them to see things in a new light?

One can only hope.

you have killed 80 ppl- have a badge!! we love u!!

legs blown off fighting someone elses war? here's a little bit of tat on a ribbon- that will make u feel so much better...

numpy badges...

will the queen be there to wipe ur bum when u've had ur spincter removed due to shrapnel? the hell she will- but ooh, what a pretty badge..

There is actually a story (quite current) FK about a Royal Marine that had his legs blown off in Afgan(If memory serves.) And alot of people were fighting for the rights to get him a bungalow..

Not sure how that is going, I haven't heard any updates on it.

for me, AlexP, that my point... legs blown off but have to fight to get a bungalow? that stinks...

protect the interests of the elite and the "righteous", but when it all goes wrong, will they help u? will they hell... but no, they'll give u a medal, and tell u it means something- it means nothing to them, just like u, the soldier with no legs, means nothing to them...

The state feeds u a lie, or "allows" u to access few opportunities, and then presents u with the fun and excitement and camradery of military service- hey! you'll get a free mountain bike, and interactive exersises on the net to show u what being a soldier is like, but they don't tell u the facts- look at the Gurkha's situation currently-

good enough to die for us, but not one of us, not really, even though we gave u a shiny medal and fed you a lot of lies...

I should also offer an apology here to those who have friends and family and suchlike involved in war, and those who have lost loved ones- I feel sorry for you all, I really do- pls don't let anyone else u love die- dont let them sign up...

Actually, FK I have 2 sons serving my country and a brother. And I am very proud.
"if you dont stand behind our troops, feel free to stand infront of them".

Love the Grey

I had the pleasure of serving with the Aussies on several exercises before and found them to be totally bada$$ troops. Glad they are on our side :)
Not sure I agree with the politicians that put them in harms way though. Sometimes I think the ones who didn't serve take a pretty cavalier attitude toward throwing in the military.
There is a unit here at Ft. Carson that has seen so much combat the poor kids are quite rattled.

^ I agree with Paladin about the role of politicians who so easily deploy young men and women especially over and over again. The biggest problem facing our all volunteer Military is multiple tours of duty without enough down time between them. The suicide rate is climbing and many soldiers are suffering from PTSD but do not seek the help they need because of the stigma associated with doing so.

My husband's family is a strong military one and my father was a Marine for 4 years during the Korean War.
My father in law, who recently passed, fought in WWII and in Korea. My husband was in the Navy for 4 years and served on a submarine at the end of the Vietnam War. My brother in law is a West Point graduate along with his daughter who also married a West Pointer but they are now out of the Army. MY bil retired as a Lt. Colonel and my niece and her husband served their 6 year obligation to the USA.

2 nephews served in Iraq and Afghanistan as well. I do support our troops but also believe that those who so carelessly send them off to fight should be held accountable for their errors. My heart weeps for those families who sons and daughters will not return from our latest wrong headed invasion of Iraq. Sorry, I guess this post is off-topic but just needed to clear the air.

I "support the troops" only so far as feeling sorry that our young men and women still sacrifice their time, health and lives for a government that has proven time and time again that it doesn't give a crap about them.

Men and women can serve the country and the world in many ways beyond the military. Get them to work rebuilding infrastructure, helping in emergencies, fire-fighting (the west is a tinderbox), mentoring youth, cleaning up toxic waste and other vital services that don't involve wearing a uniform and firing a weapon.

All those above mentioned "things" cz, are done by the military as well.
Oh and you can enjoy the freedom that you do because of those soldiers that have fought and died in days past.

This reminds me of the scene in the film Fahrenheit 9/11 where a politician is asked if his sons were serving in the armed forces. I think the answer he gave was "no" but he didn't need to open his mouth because the immediate look on his face gave his honest answer, which was "Don't be ******* stupid."

Maybe it's time we all went to see In the Loop.

"if you dont stand behind our troops, feel free to stand infront of them".

Are these the only options? If you see someone doing something that you think is wrong you would like them to stop wouldn't you? - you don't want to take their place.

Soldiers do what they are ordered to do. Perceptions of freedom depend on many things, not least of which is which side of a conflict one finds oneself, one reason why another name for "terrorist" is "freedom fighter."

greymare, every time these soldiers fought, they threatened my freedom. I should feel grateful for that?

Here's a little story...

Most of nations of the world like to hang around at the neighborhood pub. Each nation is a rather puffed-up SOB that likes to strut around acting important, trying to impress the cute little piece of arm candy at their side, their citizens.

Every night it's the same thing: the nations have too much to drink and arguments ensue. It's usually over some stupid misunderstanding that should be avoidable, but most nations are mean drunks and it's not uncommon for fights to break out. Sometimes the fight only involves a couple of nations. Sometimes the whole room erupts in a brawl.

And when they fight it's not uncommon for the arm candy to catch a broken bottle across the face, or chair against the head. They get beaten up pretty regularly... sometimes brutally. And this happens night after night after night.

After the fighting's over, as they pick shards of glass out of their faces, the nation will lean over and says to the arm candy, "Boy, are you lucky I was here to protect you."

And the arm candy, perhaps because she's taken a few too many chairs to her head, says, "Yes. The freedom that I enjoy today is due to the all of the fights that you've gotten into."

Oh so, Im sorry that they threatened your freedom. I have read your story, MEH!
You may not like the fact that we have soldiers and armys etc. But you do enjoy the freedom that comes along withit. I suppose you think taht any law enforcement is also against your freedom? So, dear friend, is anarchy the answer?

Interesting point... except that police enforce the law, while warfare invariably violates it.

And no. I am not an anarchist. I am a pacifist waiting for the rest of humanity to catch up with me. I'm not holding my breath.

I still can't get over this notion that I "enjoy" the freedom that comes along with war. That is so 1984. I enjoy the freedom of peace. Peace and freedom are jeopardized by war.

Here's an example: what freedoms were gained from World War I? I remember watching the movie Galipoli when thousands of young men rushed over the trenches into a hail of machine gun fire, how did their slaughter preserve your freedom?

World War I, like most every other war, was an utter waste of lives. Over what? Was there no alternative to fighting? Are we incapable of solving the world's problems without resorting to death and destruction? And is this really something we should celebrate?
