Burn the Qu'ran day?

i dont care really, no doubt though that this will lead to more death threats

Story: 'Burn Quran Day' an outrage to Muslims - CNN.com

Discuss? lol Good? Bad? Should focus more on honouring the dead? Focus on thanking the emergency services? Focus on the muslim and burn their books? I am sure I know the overall thought... But, interesting to see people's thoughts.
The "pastor" is an idiot.

Here is the truth of things:

During these serious and trying times, people of all faiths should remember these four great religious truths:

1. Muslims do not recognize Jews as God's chosen people.

2. Jews do not recognize Christ as the Messiah.

3. Protestants do not recognize the Pope as the leader of the Christian world.

4. Some Fundamentalists do not recognize each other at Hooters or the liquor store.

I do not think Muslims are going to object to it, but I wish they would. They are more upset by idolatry than by burning Korans. I remember C0de said that at one point in history one of their Caliphs burned a whole lot of Korans just to get rid of some corrupt ones. In fact there is a sense in which scripture ceases to be scripture in the hands of the disrespectful. Probably that is why interfaith people should be opposed to his actions, since Jones is demonizing himself and Protestants in the eyes of Muslims. Its really not his place to bring trouble on us like that, but I guess he must not know any better. Is he trying to prove that Christians need to convert?

If we are no better than they are, we should have the "Burn the Quran Day". If we are better than they are, we should not. A better person is held to a higher standard.

There are always people who feed and breed on hatred.

Always sad. Best not to give them the attention they crave.

They are the mirror of the people they hate most. If only they realised they simply hate their own reflection.

Hatred has no brothers.

Seriously, I think you would want to reduce the number of death threats.

5. and....... I do not recognise the fundamentalists for their supremacism and arrogance. I acknowledge their right to their beliefs and I wish them good luck in the afterlife and hereafter. But they do not have authority over me and have no right to give me orders because it is between me and God.

I would be happy to give them money if they are homeless and give them food if they are hungry. But I will not take advice from them.:)

Give me Pastor Terry Jones' Bible. I will urinate on it, tear it to pieces, let the dog eat it and then flush it down the toilet. Rip, rip, woodchip, turn it into paper. Throw it in the bin, no Gospel today.

I was not surprised, therefore, when I heard Jones recently agree, when asked to do so in an internet podcast interview, to burn "a couple of copies of the Talmud" too.

What? The Talmud too? I really feel like burning Pastor Jones' church down.

in its own way, this is somewhat ironic, given the last two institutions to burn the Talmud were a) the catholic church and b) the nazi party. he'd better have a big fire, though, a set of Talmud runs to about 60 folio volumes.

wow... a good old fashioned book burning!

too bad i won't be able to attend!

he is stealing a bit of my thunder, however, as i was planning to create an interactive art project that allowed one to catapult miniature flaming Al Qur'ans at a diorama of Jerusalem while Ride of the Valkyries is blaring over the loudspeakers with chants of "Allahu Akbar" layered on top for my art festival project this year!

grr >.<

The "pastor" is an idiot.

Yep....but I defend his right to be an idiot, just like I defend all the other idiots...

Since Islam is so peaceful and accomodating, I wonder when they will allow a Christian church in Mecca or Medina and allow Christians to worship freely without social stigma or prejudice?

Personally, I think this is an opportunity to critically (and truthfully) examine the reality of the situation instead of relying only on platitudes.

But I suspect that is only me...

I'm all for the burning of it, its only a book anyway so whats the big deal ?

It's a symbolic act. It is a group of Christians vilifying and demonising Islam. What does that suggest?

I really have no need for this Quran book burning, because I actually understand Terry Jones' views. I know how he got them because I used to think the way he did.

I don't think it really changes anyone's opinion. It's just a group of people venting. Muslims will still be Muslims and Christians will still be Christians. What it does is inflame the conflict between the two. But it does nothing to help the people in the world who need it.

If a group of Christians say Islam is evil then Muslims will shout back that Christians are evil. This will lead to more persecution of Christians in the Middle East.

I just read an article that said that Terry Jones was once expelled from a church when he was caught stealing from its coffers and he leads a lavish lifestyle in the U.S. running an eBay business. He says he is doing this as a way of opposing "radical Islam."

Yeah, right. If you are in opposition to radical Islam you do not need to burn Qurans. If you are talking about radical Islam you are not talking about the whole of Islam but a faction within it. The Quran represents the whole religion so by burning the Quran it is an attack on the whole religion. If Terry Jones wants to oppose radical Islam he should study radical Islamic views and try to educate radical-minded Muslims why radical Islam does not fulfill Islamic ideals. If he wants to convince people that radical Islam is evil he should be telling Muslims to fight against it.
