Senator Bob Dole was a WWII veteran, a retired attorney and a former politician, having represented Kansas in both the House and the Senate from 1969 to 1996. He was also the only candidate who lost as both prospective vice-president and president as far as I know (he ran as Ford's vice-president in 1976, lost the Republican nomination in 1988 to George H. Robert Michael Nesmith passed away from heart failure at the tender age of 78.

Desmond Mpilo Tutu was buried today (he passed away from cancer this past Sunday at the tender age of 90.)

Peter Bogdanovich, died 6 Jan. He was 82.

After two shots at directing, he made The Last Picture Show, nominated for eight Oscars, won two. Next came What’s Up, Doc?, a massive box-office hit. Paper Moon followed, completing a hat-trick. A commercial and critical success, and notably an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress Tatum O’Neal who, being 10 years old, was the youngest ever recipient of the award.
