I wish I had the command of color in Photoshop that you do, Alex. I am trying to convince myself that it has something to do with me having an older, limited version of the program. Feel free to disillusion me, if you want. How do you do it?

I'm fond of this sketch I did today. It's conceptual artwork for a story I am writing about the underworld. Sketching often helps me catalyze and digest new ideas I am working with.

Brother I use an "old" Version myself. Photoshop Elements 5 it is my favourite and personal prefrence to digital editing... Nothing else will do for me.....

You need to layer the colours... Make them like say 30% transparent... And go over and over them, layer it, dodge it, burn it, sponge it.... Get it to the style that is pleasing to your artistic eye... Sorry I ain't got much else lol Basically all I can say is faff around with it and you will find yourself ;)

Still haven't gotten around to mastering the ol' P-shop, but now that the holiday season is over I am starting to get back to work on the ol' sketch-a-doodles. Here's one with lots of dynamic movement/structure. I think it's some kind of rock structure. I seem to draw those a lot.

Okay! So, Alex. I have taken some of your hints and tricks, tips and advice and started dallying in the photoshop like I've never dillied before, and I likey! Layering! I didn't know!! And you can do a lot more with paint- and airbrushes than I ever knew before, too! Wheeeeeha!

Here is an image of an ogre or a giant or something that I sketched up today. Then, I used it as my practice template for familiarizing myself with all of the nifty bells and whistles of layering and translucenting and using the "difference" effect--which, mind you, I got a bit carried away on here. It's a work in progress, obviously.
