In the Detroit area, a head-scarf is nothing unusual at all; the full veil is seen less often (and, as you know, gives me the creeps), but that isn't your usual style anyway.
even though we're the only country that's ever used it on people, TWICE.
" BAD MUSLIM BAD ISLAM BAD BAD BAD EVIL" doesn't help it. I wish it wasn't like that.
Isn't the greatest jihad the inner jihad anyway?
As far as Mahmoud goes, he can spout off all he wants because it's the ayatollah that has real authority.

Oh no I have been found out. Go on you can tell me the truth, what gave it away the tail and horns or the explosive belt?
Absolutely correct. I was astonished tonight, on a Muslim forum, to hear that we should not call these people Muslim and simply ignore their actions. I left a post saying WRONG ignoring it will not make it go away, we must point fingers and shout NO, this is not Islam and we, as Muslims, do not accept this. I think I will probably be banned tomorrow?
I would feel terrified about going to Egypt. Maybe we should swap visits?
Haha, yeah. Whenever I get on the bus to go to church wearing the headscarf no one will set next to me because they're too bothered with themselves trying to figure out if I've got a belt of TNT under my coat. Imagine the uproar strapping yourself with gluesticks would cause.
The whole world gets confused when you don't stand up and say " NO! BAD MUSLIM! " so yes, totally agree with you.
The only country Ive ever wanted to visit is Egypt. I cannot explain why. But maybe one day I will. Ill let you know MW if ever I venture overseas. LOL
It's worn in NYC and Washington DC, and Seattle, and Los Angeles, and Baltimore, and Portsmouth, and Detroit, and Chicago, and Toronto Canada, and just about any other major city in North America I've been to recently...it's a scarf. Probably a hell of alot warmer for the wearer, than the rest of us have in dead winter...I think I would be scared enough just as a human visiting your country without adding a target to my head. We will see when the time comes, maybe I will wear it and just remove it if it causes me any trouble?
You would be more than welcome to visit Egypt, they are very friendly people and my husband would lok after you during your stay. Unless you stood in the high street shouting out your views about Islam or calling women lumps in bags no harm would come to you and I think you would be very surprised by our life.
Maybe we need to start an exchange programme? I strongly believe discussion and education is the key to peace, we should go to see what it is we are so afraid of.
one day mw and thank you. I think the boys would expect a beach with all that sand.
It does have one small side effect MW...It draws attention to the wearer's eyes...and that is where one begins to fall in love with another, the eyes are windows...
This I know as fact. If one is invited to stay with a family from the Middle East (arab, persian or jew), they are honored and cared for and very protected (almost to the point of adnauseam).
Oh yes they do take hospitality very seriously and to an embarrassing level at times but hey I love being treated like a princess.
Can always tell a conversation between two women of the British Crown...Are you mad woman, we have the Med on one side and the Red Sea on the other, it doesn't get much better than that.
Oh gosh I hadn't thought they would assume you were an evil Muslim. Imagine what it is like getting on a plane, you can feel everyone tense up and you want to shout out 'I DONT have a bomb honestly'.
Well I wasn't banned but the thread was closed and I had a couple of stern tellings off. Good heavens these people are talking about what a nice but misunderstood chap bin laden is. Everything written in the western media is lies and ALL Muslims are good - and these are mainly western converts.
Yep, there are a lot around there that think I'm a Muslim (but only on sundays? what kind of sense does that make) and that my priest is a Rabbi. Hilarious.
Getting on a plane in hijab, how terrible (or exciting, depending on the person) that experience must be. But then again, it must strengthen your faith remarkably, to know that you are being constantly judged for it.
But whenever I see a woman in a headscarf or hijab I think of the Virgin Mary, not a terrorist.
Isn't it a responsibility of the Ummah to make sure people aren't spreading lies about Islam?
well, I for one like to hear your opinions mw. It is very enlightening. funny, cos all the stuff I thought I knew about muslims turns out to be cr/p. Thanks for clearing some of it up.
