Jury awards father $11M in funeral case

In the Detroit area, a head-scarf is nothing unusual at all; the full veil is seen less often (and, as you know, gives me the creeps), but that isn't your usual style anyway.

even though we're the only country that's ever used it on people, TWICE.

{MW rolls around the floor laughing and cheering for madeinrussia - I wish I had a flag to wave} :D

" BAD MUSLIM BAD ISLAM BAD BAD BAD EVIL" doesn't help it. I wish it wasn't like that.

Oh no I have been found out. Go on you can tell me the truth, what gave it away the tail and horns or the explosive belt?

You wish it wasnt like that, how do you think I feel ;)

Isn't the greatest jihad the inner jihad anyway?

Absolutely correct. I was astonished tonight, on a Muslim forum, to hear that we should not call these people Muslim and simply ignore their actions. I left a post saying WRONG ignoring it will not make it go away, we must point fingers and shout NO, this is not Islam and we, as Muslims, do not accept this. I think I will probably be banned tomorrow? :(

As far as Mahmoud goes, he can spout off all he wants because it's the ayatollah that has real authority.

Yes and No. I have been watching their little dance for the last couple of years and when you ignore the rubbish they are saying and just watch the dance it becomes very interesting. I think there is more to their relationship than meets the eye.

I think I would be scared enough just as a human visiting your country without adding a target to my head. We will see when the time comes, maybe I will wear it and just remove it if it causes me any trouble?

Haha, yeah. Whenever I get on the bus to go to church wearing the headscarf no one will set next to me because they're too bothered with themselves trying to figure out if I've got a belt of TNT under my coat. :) Imagine the uproar strapping yourself with gluesticks would cause.

Makes for some good laughs, at least.

The whole world gets confused when you don't stand up and say " NO! BAD MUSLIM! " so yes, totally agree with you.

The dance of Mahmoud and the Ayatollah, crrrreeeepy creepy, I don't want to ever see that lil leprechaun dance in the literal sense. It reminds me too much of that low-budget horror film series Leprechaun.

I would feel terrified about going to Egypt. Maybe we should swap visits?

You would be more than welcome to visit Egypt, they are very friendly people and my husband would lok after you during your stay. Unless you stood in the high street shouting out your views about Islam or calling women lumps in bags no harm would come to you and I think you would be very surprised by our life.

Maybe we need to start an exchange programme? I strongly believe discussion and education is the key to peace, we should go to see what it is we are so afraid of.

Oh gosh I hadn't thought they would assume you were an evil Muslim. Imagine what it is like getting on a plane, you can feel everyone tense up and you want to shout out 'I DONT have a bomb honestly'.

Well I wasn't banned but the thread was closed and I had a couple of stern tellings off. Good heavens these people are talking about what a nice but misunderstood chap bin laden is. Everything written in the western media is lies and ALL Muslims are good - and these are mainly western converts.

I thank G-d I am more than half way through my life and I don't have any children who will have to grow up to try to make sense of this madness we call the world of man.

The only country Ive ever wanted to visit is Egypt. I cannot explain why. But maybe one day I will. Ill let you know MW if ever I venture overseas. LOL

You will always be more than welcome in my home Grey (of course hubby will have to go sleep at his mothers ....... when are you coming ;)). Your boys are all welcome too.

Everyone should visit Egypt at some time in their life, it has a hypnotic charm (of course I am biased). :D

It's worn in NYC and Washington DC, and Seattle, and Los Angeles, and Baltimore, and Portsmouth, and Detroit, and Chicago, and Toronto Canada, and just about any other major city in North America I've been to recently...it's a scarf. Probably a hell of alot warmer for the wearer, than the rest of us have in dead winter...

It does have one small side effect MW...It draws attention to the wearer's eyes...and that is where one begins to fall in love with another, the eyes are windows...

This I know as fact. If one is invited to stay with a family from the Middle East (arab, persian or jew), they are honored and cared for and very protected (almost to the point of adnauseam).

Bob x would be able to handle it for about a week, before climbing the walls...lol :D

one day mw and thank you. I think the boys would expect a beach with all that sand.

Are you mad woman, we have the Med on one side and the Red Sea on the other, it doesn't get much better than that. :D

They can also be very deceptive at times ...... watch out for eyes!! :p

Oh yes they do take hospitality very seriously and to an embarrassing level at times but hey I love being treated like a princess.

Yep, there are a lot around there that think I'm a Muslim (but only on sundays? what kind of sense does that make) and that my priest is a Rabbi. Hilarious.

Getting on a plane is enough of a pain now anyway, one time they kept me at a security checkpoint for 25 minutes and even made me take off articles of clothing, and this was at Frankfurt International. But hey, if that's the price of security, fine. I would rather be inconvenienced before I get on the plane than blown up, right.

Getting on a plane in hijab, how terrible (or exciting, depending on the person) that experience must be. But then again, it must strengthen your faith remarkably, to know that you are being constantly judged for it.

But whenever I see a woman in a headscarf or hijab I think of the Virgin Mary, not a terrorist.

Isn't it a responsibility of the Ummah to make sure people aren't spreading lies about Islam?

How brilliant, now that is what I call Interfaith :D

I don't mind the hassle because of the security aspects but I have to admit I do want to sit everyone down that is desperately trying not to look me in the eye and give a lecture about the real teachings of Islam. One thing I have noticed is that because I travel alone Egyptair tend to always sit me next to either another Muslim woman travelling alone or an elderly Muslim man (really it happens every time but it gives us something to talk about during the flight :p).

But whenever I see a woman in a headscarf or hijab I think of the Virgin Mary, not a terrorist.

You are in the vast minority unfortunately and no doubt your uderstanding comes from your own wearing of a head cover to church. It really has come to something when a person is judged by their headgear. I just read this story:

Silicon Valley Moms Blog: In Memory Of Alia Ansari

Isn't it a responsibility of the Ummah to make sure people aren't spreading lies about Islam?

Yes it is but unfortunately there is a certain mindset that is set in concrete and it is impossible to discuss with. Everything you quote is 'western lies' and everything they quote is the absolute truth because a Muslim wrote it. It is so sad but we plod on. If you go to just about any forum you will see them and then other Muslims like myself trying to be the voice of reason and stop the lies from spreading - it is like trying to move a mountain sometimes.

well, I for one like to hear your opinions mw. It is very enlightening. funny, cos all the stuff I thought I knew about muslims turns out to be cr/p. Thanks for clearing some of it up.

Thank you Grey, yes there are so many things we believe because of what we read in the media. I first started to learn about Islam because I wanted to know what made the 'enemy' tick - wow I got some surprises. This is what the world needs, less sensationalist journalism and more discussion and real education.

Salaam
