agnosticism

Well, let's see now.... I visited or studied under Suzuki Roshi and Ueshiba Roshi and Ham Sok Hon and I have seen Krishnamurti, Rajneesh, the Dalai Lama in the flesh. Hint: just read any of them and compare.

Damn . . . I'm doomed, I don't believe in chakras!

Just means "wheels", and they aren't really necessary to know, you will experience them as your spirituality creates more sensitivity in you...

Just energy centers in your astral body.

The only way I (or anyone else for that matter) will experience these chakra centers is if I make myself believe they are there.

Perhaps you are right. A person who tells lies may not see any problems with telling lies.

There is no problem because if it is successful they will know it was in love, if it is not then they have not loved me.

If you are dishonest, you are dishonest. Telling lies is a disease. You essentially claim that the end will justify the means, or that someone else is responsible for not following the lies. I tell you: you are mistaken. Telling lies organizes your mind in a way that will cause you, and those who trust you, to suffer. I have seen where a few people ended up as a result of it. The disease is your own if you choose it.

Opening up chakras is very dangerous. Don't do it unless you are working with a highly-qualified teacher.

Thank you Nick! I concur!

As autopsies don't reveal chakras, couldn't they just be considered a function of mind? In which case, why the worry? Why not treat them like any other sort of self-fulfilling prophecy of the mind, or as Etu says, something that only exists if we believe it to be so.

Jesus is generally considered to be enlightened, but I don't see chakra mentioned anywhere in the bible. Nor in any of the ancient Greek writings of Aristotle, Socrates, etc; also generally considered to be enlightened individuals...

Hmm, remember the shamans of old who were slightly off their rocker?

You do notice halos and such in religious artwork, though.

Yet, in the baptism at least of babies in the Catholic church, they touch the higher 3 chakras... obviously someone along the way has acknowledged them, it cannot simply be coincidence.

The crown of thorns mentioned in the gospels is particularly symbolic, imo.

So then it takes two: not a solo pursuit. Interesting perspective.

It seems Jesus recommended God as a highly-qualified (good) teacher.

What do you think it symbolizes?

It represents his crowning as the King of Jews.

I think she also believes it represents the crown chakra opening, the 10,000 petal lotus flowering.

It is no coincidence that often saints of all faiths are depicted with a ring around their heads - usually of light - as it is representative of exactly that.

If you want to say existence - God - is the guru then certainly I will agree a guru is necessary. What is not necessary is becoming a devotee to any man, all enlightened people are simply vehicles of That, but too many say you must surrender to them, merge with them. No, it is only to the Whole that you should surrender.

**sigh** "The Collective" called to have Jesus crucified, no?
If "collectives" can be this evil in a "conscious" state, imagine the "collective unconsciousness."

One other thing--a guide is necessary because it is difficult to clearly perceive reality through your intestines when your head is shoved up your bum....

Consciousness is not possible in a crowd, the individual becomes lost into it... this is why I speak so much against crowd-think.
