Is Britain no longer a 'Christian' country?

Aussie yes one of the lines in the Constitution has that statement. One out of many, many, many lines. I guess even if it is mentioned once, it must be what the Founding Fathers intended, huh?

And as Wil has pointed out twice now, the changes were made in the 1950s because of political extremism within the country at that time. A knee jerk reaction to the commie scare and Senator McCarthy's witch hunt to brand anyone who didn't agree with him a communist sympathizer.

You don't know the history behind the events; yet you draw conclusions from your ignorance. Pretty funny mate.
 
Let's see, I'm not from the states, but if I remember right and correct me if I'm wrong, one of the lines in the US declaration of independence reads, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights..." Now who do you suppose the founding fathers were referring to with words like created and Creator? Seems to me NJ's right. Adding the word God to legal tender and the pledge supports the original premise. When it was added has no relevance. The idea was there from the beginning.
Amazing. Someone from outside the country gets it and born citizens haven't a clue. The line Aussie quoted here referencing the Creator (God) is from the Declaration of Independence which predates the US Constitution. This established a precedent that we were to be a nation under God. Why and when the word God was added to the Pledge of Allegiance and on Currency is thus irrelevant since the precedent had already been established.

I for one feel it's rather pointless, I mean the idea of getting hung up on if we think either the UK or the US is a religious country or not. I'm truly thankful for separation of church and state. Yup, I'm saying this, now as an individual who considers himself a serious Christian.

If declaring one's faith in God makes one godly, then the religious fanatics who murder innocents are godly people too. Saying we believe in God is not always the same as being in touch with God in our hearts.

Look at many evangelical voters on the right. The majority support the most unreligious (to me anyway) man like Donald Trump. I'm a registered Republican (yeah go ahead and boo, I noticed many members here are on the left side), I'm so damn UNpleasantly surprised at how long Trump's popularity is lasting. Oh God help us.

And Yet Jefferson was clear in his statement that the constitution was made solely for the betterment of all man, not just the Christian. You ever research what some of his favorite books were? 1 was a Quran, of which the same ideas could be derived. George Washington was staunch in his condemnation of a country controlled by a single religion. Which is the reason a lot of people came from Europe in the first place.

I don't believe Control is the proper context here...

God tends to keep to himself so I'm not expecting much from that front. Somebody better help us though. Chump is a cancer and we are likely done for as a country if people are really stupid enough to vote him into the Presidency.
 
If people can vote Dubya, they can also vote Trump. This is gonna be a sure shot recipe for "the end".

What exactly is Christian law? I thought Paul nailed the law to the cross?
 
So true. Just mention Sharia law and the people of this country go berserk. But force Christian law on the populace, as most Republican state governors have done, and people cheer. There are none so blind as those who refuse to see!
I find the people that say they are apalled at sharia law are often advocates of cutting off hands of thieves, penises of rapists, jailing people or public executions for fairly minor offenses...eye for an eye... Oh the dichotomy... Our lives are a a satirical sitcom

Democracy is good. But democracy gets us the leaders "we deserve" for better or worse.

We all try to force what we think is right on others, by casting a vote.

In liberal states, they push gun-control laws that don't work, and infringe on our second amendment right, but they refuse to see. So we are even.

Who are these people?! Hope they are not Americans.

Well I may agree to the second one, not literally cutting it off, but castrate them if the therapy doesn't work. Is that too drastic?
