'Keeping up with the Steins'

pretty funny it revolves around this one jewish family attempting to "out do" another jewish family and using their sons bah mitzvahs to do so... Some inner family issues and all in all funny comedy! And hey! Neild diamond singing "Hava nagila!" Rise brothers with a glad heart! What more could you ask for?!?!?!!? Well apart from a round house from chuck in there somewhere to top it off..

The Gene Autry Collection: Back in the Saddle Again

While watching the film I noticed a reference to Eccesiastes in the song called "Swingin Sam the Cowboy Man". The words go "Get along little doggy get a move on. Be glad you're alive. Get along little doggy get a groove on, cause you're gonna...."

Eccl 9:4...9 "he who is joined with all the living has hope, for a living dog is better than a dead lion....Enjoy life"

Coincidence?

Cool!

This past week I had to do my annual viewing of "Something Wicked This Way Comes."

I still think it has all of the hallmarks of a classic, even if it is underappreciated by the masses.

I purchased The Buddhist Fist on amazon. It's a classic kung fu film (poor dubbing, crotchety old master that can uberpwn, shaolin monks, and some crazy fight scenes) that I saw once on tv and never forgot because of its utter awesomeness. Based on the back, apparently the director is the guy who served as action directer/martial arts choreographer/advisor for The Matrix trilogy, Crouching Tiger and Kill Bill. I didn't realize that. But remembering the film I just had to get a copy. Will probably watch it tonight.

I saw Taladega Nights while I was away. I enjoyed it.

You like them old kung fu flicks too? Kewl!

I don't think I've seen that one, but I love Jackie Chan in Legend of the Drunken Master. I've got an early movie of his, I think it is called Snake (fist?) in the Eagle's claw...I just love the teacher in it. I am constantly on the lookout for a copy of "the Big Brawl," wiki says it was a very early Jackie Chan movie, I saw it in the theatre in the late '70's. It wasn't the traditional Kung Fu flick, it had an American story line and some pretty good cinematography, and I would love to see it again.

Oddly enough, my lovely Chinese wife wrinkles her nose when I want to see a Kung Fu flick. Crouching Tiger and Flying Daggers she tolerated once, and doesn't seem interested in a repeat. I can get her to watch Memoirs of a Geisha and Last Samurai again, but the rest she is happy without...

Eh, no accounting for taste.

Kung fu movies blow :/

There are rarely exceptions....

House of daggers.
Bullet.
Kentucky Fried movie (Well kinda, it's a p take of kung fu movies of sorts.)
The Forbiden Kingdom.
And Bloodsports Because it is a -true- story and who cannot love that adorable simple minded guy "Let's go USA!! ERR HA EER HA!!" lol... Moron. Uhm anyway, thats about it for me :S

Juan,

do you remember an older Jackie Chan film that ends with Jackie encouraging everyone to stand up to an oppressive regime and fight, everyone cheering and joining in, and then them all getting mowed down by machine guns? I don't remember the name of it.

Sounds like "Fantasy Mission Force" or something. Kind of a dirty dozen type group that Jackie falls into, most of them fall one by one as they wipe out bunches of different bad guys, and then it turns out at the end the original leader that put the team together had faked his own death at the beginning to set the team up for getting wiped out. Interesting concept, but it didn't translate well, especially when one of the bad guy groups was a house full of ghosts, and another was a bunch of Amazon like women. I have it as a two movie box set with the snake-eagle claw movie. Outside of that one, I don't know what it could be...?

Here's a little write up on Fantasy Mission Force.

Mr. Nice Guy was pretty cool, he did some stunts with a huge dump truck that were pretty phenomenal. I think that's the one he did the step ladder routine as well, great on film but the outtakes revealed just how tricky it really was. He goofed several times, painfully so, before he got it right. Those remain some of my favorite stunts by him.

A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men.

Quantum of Solace:

In depth analysis and verdict:

More Bond franchise crap.

Juan,

that's not it. It was a more straightforward story for most of it, set in China I think, in a little village. At the end Jackie's finally encouraged everyone who's holed up in some building that they can resist and fight back against the enemy. He convinces them all and the bad guys come in with guns to plow everyone down. The movie ends with all of the good guys dead.

Jackie Chan? Now there's a likeable guy. He's not only rich and successful, but he stays busy and plans for the future. I just saw an interview where he talks about his Dragon schools for children. He's built about 17 schools for poor kids in China and takes donations for building more of them. It reminds me a little of what I heard about Lucy Liu and UNICEF helping kids in Africa.

Really? I'm shocked! I thought it was meant to be a thoughtful examination of the difficulties of living a meaningful life in a meaningless world.:p

So....why did ya watch it???!!!
