What Movies Have You Seen Recently?

I saw Doubt. It was quite good.

I was wondering if that one was worth watching. Meryl Streep is a very accomplished actress, and her role seems difficult to pull off credibly. The storyline sounds intriguing...just not enough to get me to cough up matinee fare yet.

"Bolt" on the other hand...but that's the kid in me. Haven't seen it yet, just need to get up the ooomph. The hamster in the trailers makes me laugh my a$$ off.

Juan,

Streep's performance was incredible. There was so much depth to her role. It does feel at times like one is watching a play, but that is to be expected.

i just saw The Dark Knight.

BEST. MOVIE. EVER.

if you've not seen it, do so. it's on dvd and cable now which is how i could see it given that i don't go to movie theaters.

metta,

Balls Out: [4/10] Not bad has it's moments, not that funny though.....

Madagascar II: [5/10] Same again, has it's moments not that funny and kinda old lol....

Open Season II: [6/10] Funny, entertainment, twas entertained....

Pineapple Express: [8/10] lulz... Awesome film, funny and just a very re-watchable number!! WOOOO item nine! It's the bee's knees!

The Wrestler: [7/10]... It was too real. And I kept having to leave the room as I found bits quite sad/tragic or topics I cannot comfortably watch.... I got it 'for the lulz' and cause I really love Mickey Rourke... But It was too real......

Alex,

I'm looking forward to seeing The Wrestler, primarily for the reason you didn't like it. You didn't realize it's supposed to be an intense and graphic drama dealing with the same types of themes as Aronofsky's other films from a very different angle?

Does that description you gave sound like something you'd experience 'for the lulz'? I thought it was going to be a light hearted/tag violent film... I never read reviews I just download all the new films and just watch them. *shrugs*

It wasn't intense.... It was just too real.... You are born you keep getting better and better you get to the peak, you then fall down hill there is no stopping point.... You keep going, and going... You fail, you become alone, you become ill, you become weak, you need to fill your self with so much **** just to keep up.... You struggle.... then you'red ****ed and die.... And nothing stops that..... Of course it was filmed well and a story was told well and it showed how life and time effected one man, but it effects us all just the same... So I gave it a high rating [7/10] but not a film I'd watch again. :)

Thats wierd... I heard Pinapple eXpress sucked???
wait... these same ppl told me madagascar 2 was really good...

hmmm...

you guys should see Choke and Let the Right One In
two sleeper hits of the year. Choke is a dark comedy
based on the novel by the fight club guy, and the second
one is a vampire flick in the league of interview...
im actually just about to watch it, but ive heard good things
from everyone.

Wow, its been sucha long time since i have been able to watch T.V.
As a christian i have had to re-evaluate my life.
I remember a s a kid our parents teaching us as Seventh Day Adventists not to read Novels as they were works of fiction, the bible teahes in the new testament as i have seen thatwe are to avoid, Geaneologies and fables, Avoid Mythology and Old Wives Tales.
We are notto believe or be involved, to avoid i think means to not even read them, To discuss them as a christian, that would be hard to avoid, but as forms of entertainment, i canot, its sad, i used to love foreign moies and quality Telly.
I cannot buy comics and Story books either.... it leaves me feelig unsociable and left out at times....
Its no big deal really that i have chosen and know to avoid it, what hurts is that my christian experience means i cannot watch any kind of T.V. or Film at all, even historicalor factual..... i am haunted at the moment in a way, feling kind of isolated.
You remind me of more entertained moments inmy life, periods of quiet peace and privacy, really nice to read your piece though.....

I thought I remembered a thread about this once upon a time, but I couldn't find anything. What movies have you seen recently and what did you think of them?

I just rented Ushpizin and Iron Monkey. Ushpizin was produced by a hasidic community in Israel and has received international attention. It's about a couple of recently religious Breslover hasidim trying to conceive who receive some unexpected guests from the past over the holiday of Sukkot. Very entertaining. Moving. Great all around pick.

Iron Monkey is a wire-fu movie about Robin Hood... I mean the Iron Monkey... Amazing martial arts sequences. A lot of fun. A little cheese. Good times. Good times. So that was yesterday. Today, high on wire-fu, I got a good kung fu movie, Enter the Dragon with Bruce Lee. My only complaint is that it's a bit too Hollywood at times. But it's still a great picture. I think I'm going to rate movies in Yay!s.

Ushpizin gets 4 1/2 Yay!s. You know it was funny. I had the English captions on, but I was listening to the Hebrew, and every now and again I'd hear the Hebrew and see the English and think to myself, "That does not capture the language at all." Kol HaKavod becomes "Very nice."??? Gevalt! And that's only the one I can remember. It got much worse than that. However, that didn't hurt the film at all. Also, the two guests, they didn't have so much depth to them, but I don't think they needed it so much in order for the film to work. Still, nitpick I must.

Iron Monkey I give 5 Yay!s shouted while flying around on wires.

Enter the Dragon I give 3 1/2 Yay!s. I would have only given it 3, but I have to admit that I was entertained throughout the whole film. So it gets an extra 1/2.

Namaste cam and welcome:confused: to IO,

I read all these cannots and shouldnots that your parents and religioin are concerned about. And can't fathom how you are on the net and signing up for this forum.

If it is 'kosher' for you to read and discuss at this forum there isn't a comic book, movie, or other work that shouldn't be acceptable. ie..stick around and your eyes will be opened and your faith challenged.

Watched my old copy of "Merlin," a two-parter I remember originally being one of those Hallmark movies (most of which are actually pretty good). Unfortunately my self-taped copies are atrocious, I seem to recall that is why I seldom watch this anymore. But the acting is fantastic, the storyline is a wonderful twist on the old Arthurian legend, the special effects are first rate considering this was made for TV and predates the CGI stuff that dominates now. I just wish my copies were on better tape, or better yet DVD.

Merlin (1998/II) (TV)

Perchance... these people you heard from where say about half my age? Then I could understand.

doubt it

different tastes i guess

p.s. Let the right one in is a Norwegian flick apparently, really good one

Some warped ass taste lol.... Madagascar is like done ;/ And pineapple express is like the frontier of comedy! It's out there in uncharted waters, kicking ass and taking names. And it has weed so not much else to say Pineapple express is the bee's freaking knees.

*pertitions for laws to be changed that those who do not like pineapple express should serve 2 years in prison :s*
