Actually it's the reverse. It means you've stopped thinking that your ego is the be all and end all of the universe and you no longer take refuge in it, nor in the delusions that a particular belief system will save you, nor that what you have in your bank will make you happy, nor that having the right image will free you in any way. So it's more letting go of all labels than taking on a new one. This might be difficult to understand from the standpoint of those who read about Buddhism and don't practice because the dualistic mind actually can't fully comprehend what it is to be without labels, and what it is to not need to feel superior. Oh and Zen is Buddhist by the way.
