smoking

If I had known how hard it would be to quit I probably wouldn't have tried. I still enjoy God's good green herb, just had to let the tobacco go.

Chris

I some how missed this..... You partake in the erb?

And *real* men can handle a little suffering...

*flips you the bird* Theres one for you.

I gots the boots!! :D

l
quote]
Hey :Dif you had your feet shod with these you may find that your mind will be made over ;)

and with YOUR feet shod with the equipment of the good news of peace.
Ephesians 6;15

Now that would be a habit to get into:) habits that honor Jehovah God and that upbuild others.

*flips you the bird* Theres one for you.

If you only knew...in the grand scheme of suffering, that is a pittance, a rude annoyance that is over in a moment.

I'll trade ya any ol' day you think you are ready. Let me hand you the suffering I deal with on a daily basis...for just *one* day. ;)

Quitting smoking was nothing in comparison.

Much like Gardner's multiple intelligences, I think there may be multiple wisdom modes as well. Therefore, I would volunteer to stand up and call you wise. :)

The whole quitting smoking thing taught me much about how the brain works in relation to habitualization. My wife (saint that she is) works in the psych ward at a local hospital here, and tells me tales of people coming off opiates and other drugs, including alcohol.

Anyone who has any time away from their addiction can feel good about it, but as you say, being forgiving of relapse is a wise course. Indeed being forgiving of human behaviors at all is one of the foundations of wisdom.

I know I have mentioned this before, but there exists a certain ghost like quality in any addiction. In ones "peripheral vision" so to speak, the cravings can be maddening, but seen straight on, they tend to dissipate like morning mist.
Would that be hungry ghosts? ;)

An appropriate analogy SG. Funny thing, I learned of these ideas from my teacher at the time Ven. Tenzin Kacho. She is a Buddhist nun who lived here in Colorado for a time teaching downtown at Shove Chapel.
Though she is no longer on this assignment, I think about her and her excellent teaching often.

Any addiction can be beat.
If one wants to.
But that is the thing.
If the person doesn't want to, Maybe it is a subconscious thing, then they will not let it go.
Personally, I think these organizations which tell a person they are an addict or alchoholic forever and need to keep coming to the meeting to "keep clean" are just so much rubbish and are all about social control mechanisms and keeping tabs on people.
If you want to do a thing, you can.
I smoked (past tense) since I was but a teenage lad in air cadets, at times quite heavily and at times a variety of the spices of life, but now, after many decades, all my alleged "nasty" habits have been put aside.
I have no problem with people who "CHOOSE" to do as they will.
And in spite of our supposed social contract (which I have never seen) which we are involved in with our culture, your body is your own and you are entitled to do with it as you will with no one being qualified to be your judge regarding what you eat or do not eat.
That is an individuals basic right and should be inalienable.

So good to know your will is so strong...Can you hold your breath underwater for 5 minutes as well? I know those that can, but they still can't stop smoking or drinking...They are called Seals...

Perhaps cultivating stronger will power is a skill they should get some training in as well.

Perhaps it is a symptom of being a part of a death cult.

What death cult?
Seconded! Although, there is a sort of reckless feeling when you smoke. Its like an ethic of "live hard play hard die hard" Its like another kind of Phd. (Play Hard Die)

Hi. I have almost no will power. I don't think a person can give up something they haven't had their absolute fill of. In the end it wasn't the health benefits, even though I'd had a pretty bad smokers cough for five years or better, it was that I got so frickin' tired of being bent over for four bucks or better a pack in taxes.
Dude, too hard on yourself. Reassess! You can have a lot of willpower and still love smoking.

Actually, there are those who function quite well as long as they have a point of accountability and an external locus of control. But as for keeping tabs? Dude, the meetings are held and attended by people who don't even know the last names of the other members. No tinfoil hat stuff I promise.

Any of you heard of this "superchamp"? Or something like that... It sounds like that.... Some guy was telling be about it....

You take a pill every time you smoke.... Then like after two weeks.... You should feel sick everytime you have a smoke.... Meant to be effective... Anyone investing in this? Cause I'll do you one better... If you hire me (really want another job and this would be a sweet job!) I'll stick by your side 24 freaking 7.... Everytime you have a smoke I'll ice your jaw... It will be just as effective and I believe it will be faster way to quit....

Effective, but no doubt the pills would be far cheaper....consider the upkeep on an Alex unit:p.

I don't know if you're talking about Chantix. Kinda sounds like superchamp. Well, no...but sorta. Chantix is what I took to quit. You start dosing up on it a week before you actually quit, and it does make you sick if you smoke after you build up to full strength dosage the second week. It really does knock down the nicotine withdrawal symptoms, I'll testify to that. It just about completely eliminates the physical withdrawal symptoms, that's no sh**. The side effects of Chantix are real too. It messes with your sleep patterns and makes you fart a lot.

Chris

Oh my!!!! *blushes* Makes you trump does it? Ah my sleep is messed up real bad as it is so I won't be taking this chantix stuff!! But yeah my friend was saying it just makes you so ill from what he heard he is going to the doctors to get it monday!

LUL and to be honest I just can't wait to see his face when he smokes with it! going to be fun!

Sry to drudge up an old thread, but I've quit now for a lil over a month. Well quit smoking, haven't quit nicotine. I'm using an electronic cigarette. It's hella awesome. Gives the feel of smoking without smoke, just vapor, and still nicotine so the cravings aren't there. And they have different levels of nicotine so you can step down with it until you get to zero nicotine, and you can still have the feel of smoking, the habit of it, yano.

Look em up if your interested. Maybe it'll help someone. :)

PS: I'd strongly advise checking out a forum before purchasing. Not all e-cigs are the same. Be informed.

sounds great, what brand do you smoke?!

I got the M401 from absolutelyecigs.com...I'm pretty sure that address is right...

Or ruyandirect.com Both good places for an M401.

But since your from Scotland you may wanna look at the intellicig evo. Just google it.

And get bottles of liquid instead of cartridges to just refill. Much cheaper and it works great. I get my liquid from eliquidplanet.com tis pretty good for price and variety and those bottles last a while. I bought two bottles and I've been using them for three weeks and they both are only a little under a third of the way gone. And these are kinda small bottles. But they laaaast.

Seriously check out a forum. So much information on da forum. You'll b a pro in no time.
